"....The 21st night of September?!"
Neither do we 😂 but regardless, I can assure you THIS September will DEFINITELY be a month to REMEMBER!
After an action packed summer, we're dipping into the FALL with a festive amount of activities to hopefully ease us into some COOLER weather!
Before we get too deep into chatting about the FUN stuff, it's probably important that we double down on a reminder that while our Events team does a GREAT job of sourcing supportive and affirming venues for our social outings, each of us is still responsible for self managing behavior in public settings that reflect MIX's values and follows our (as yet to be released) Code of Conduct. More on this soon (expect a formal Code of Conduct before month's end) but our Mission to build inclusive community rests on the foundation that all individuals deserve mutual respect and consent is a requirement while trust is earned. Please don't hesitate to speak up if you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation or you witness an uncomfortable interaction. MIX Leadership (often wearing the Pink Lanyard at an event) exists to help intervene in these situations as needed but we need YOU to help hold us all accountable!
Now...on to the GOOD stuff! How about that picnic?! WOW! We were OVERJOYED to see so many of you Saturday afternoon in the park! Thanks for braving the heat and humidity to show up with and for community! THIS is what MIX is about. Speaking of what MIX is about, if you were at the picnic, you probably heard what it costs to operate this beautiful organization. It's not much, but it's also not nothing. You can find the details about how MIX spends it's money here. If you scroll far enough, you can also see where else we're hoping to GROW! And we can't do it without YOU! We've just launched our FALL Giving Campaign. With your help, we're hoping to raise $10K to continue planning and hosting ENM Events, develop and share Educational Materials and Workshops, continue Community Outreach and Give Back to the community that has invested so much into us! Go ahead and pop on over to our Fundraising Page and help us Stir Up Some Support! You can make a One-Time Donation, or better, yet, set up a Recurring Donation to keep supporting MIX throughout the year!
And, what a lovely opportunity to segue right into our newest MIX event launch...MIXed. This month we're VERY excited to launch our newest educational mini series on Consent, Power & Repair. Designed as a series of 3 sessions, each 90 minute workshop will help you build practical skill sets that you can use in ANY relationship. While this mini series does build upon itself, sessions are stand alone. You will most assuredly walk away, from even just one, with valuable resources that just might improve your approach to your relationships.
It's FALL Y'ALL! And that means we're bringing back TrailMIX while the weather is nice. DON'T PANIC, we're not stopping MeepleMIX! In fact, we've had such a positive response to this event series that we're going to keep it on rotation for a minute! We do love a good Game Night and we're THRILLED that you do, too!

MIXed - Consent

Session 1: Beyond "Yes Means Yes" - Consent as an Ongoing Practice
This is a hands-on workshop, not a lecture. Consent is often taught as a single yes/no moment — a model that breaks down fast once more than two people, or an ongoing relationship, are involved.
In this session, you'll practice consent as an ongoing skill rather than a one-time checkbox. In a live exercise, you'll choose an object that matters to you and then be asked to give it up — using that moment to practice giving and hearing responses beyond yes and no, including maybe, not yet, and I've changed my mind. You'll leave with practical language for negotiating consent in real time, and a clearer sense of the difference between freely choosing something and quietly managing a situation.
No experience required. Nothing about your personal relationships will be discussed or disclosed in the room.
This 90 minute course is part of a 3-part series on Consent, Power, and Repair. You're welcome to attend just this session and leave with useful skills, or take all three for the fuller picture.

MIXed - Power Dynamics

Sunday, October 11, 2026 at 02:30 PM CDT
Session 2: Who Has the Power Here? — Power Dynamics in Relationships and Community
Consent only matters if refusing is actually possible. This session is about power: the factors that make saying no more costly — and often make that cost invisible.
You'll learn a working vocabulary for ten types of power that shape whether someone can really refuse, including "entwinement" — the practical, often-unspoken ties (shared housing, finances, kids, a joint lease) that make leaving or refusing harder even when no one is threatening anything. Every exercise comes back to one practical question: what would make "no" cheaper here?
Some exercises are experienced before they're explained, but everything is unpacked by the end of the session. Nothing about your personal life is shared with the group.
This course is part of a 3-part series on Consent, Power, and Repair. You don't need to have attended Session 1 — this session is designed to stand on its own.

MIXed - Repair

Session 3: When It Breaks — Conflict, De-escalation, and Repair
In a tight-knit community, avoiding someone you're in conflict with isn't really an option — you'll see them again, at the next event, in the group chat, at a mutual friend's gathering. This session is about handling that reality directly.
We start by creating a small conflict on purpose, then practice repairing it — both the boundary you knowingly crossed and the one you didn't realize you'd crossed until later. From there, you'll practice recognizing what specifically escalates conflict in this community, regulation techniques you can actually use (not just hear described), structured hard conversations, and live scenarios you can pause and take over until the group finds an approach that works.
We close on a distinction that shapes everything else: conflict, harm, and abuse are different problems, and they need different responses. A pause option is available throughout — anyone can use it at any time, no explanation required.
This course is part of a 3-part series on Consent, Power, and Repair. As with the other sessions, you don't need to attend the others to get value from this one.
